Chancellors Farm

Restoration of a grade II listed historic farm, just north of Priddy in the Mendip Hills. Works were completed in 2014.

The working farmhouse is early 17th Century, constructed of coursed limestone rubble with pantile roof. Features include stone flag floors, mullioned windows and chamfered beams. The back kitchen has a pump and open fireplace with bread oven adjoining two coppers. 

The site is notable for a several reasons - the farm sits in a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and is home to a number of archaeological remains.

Lying close to Yoxter Range it includes a restricted access nature reserve, operated by Somerset Wildlife Trust. This is an outstanding wildflower meadow environment - characterised by 180 flowering species species including Orchids, Sweet Vernal Grass, Red Fescue and Common Bluebell. The meadow acts as a “source" meadow providing seed stock for restoration of other meadows in the county.

The archaeology includes well preserved opencast  lead mines from medieval period to early 18th century.
