who we are

We are a close-knit team who work from our studio in Bristol. The Practice was started in 2007 by Chris Askew and has evolved steadily over the years into the people-oriented place it is today. The practice merged with Cavanna Partnership in 2014.

Along with our core team we like to maintain links with student internship programmes, and as a result our numbers periodically multiply to welcome new faces.

Claire is excited by the potential for creative thinking and collaboration to draw out unique and appropriate solutions to complex challenges, and this drives her as an Architect. She has a particular passion for working with charities and community groups, where engagement with all stakeholders, and a keen eye on the figures, is key to the success of a project.

Having worked in a number of Practices, Claire has worked on projects of varying scales within the sports, retail, housing, community and education sectors. With a background that includes set design and a first class degree in Furniture & Interior Design as well as Architecture, she is someone who pays great care and attention to the minute details as well as the bigger picture.

Outside the studio, Claire is passionate about social mobility, and mentors for the Fluid Diversity Mentoring Programme which was developed by RIBA’s Architects for Change (AfC) Committee and the Construction industry Council.

katie williams -part II graduate

Katie is passionate about pursuing a people and planet focused ‘co-made’ approach to space, where collaboration, community and empowerment help to form a practice shifting from the individual to the collective.

Katie graduated from UWE’s MArch course two years ago, where she enjoyed experimenting with alternative forms of practice and focused her thesis project on the shamanic rooting of rave culture and its capacity for spiritual healing.

Her interests lie in the reuse of buildings, and her previous experience in larger scale practice has focused on the conservation of historic fabric in Birmingham and Bath. Most recently, Katie has been working on a masterplan project, visioning a new low- car, low-carbon mixed community in Exeter.

Outside the studio, Katie enjoys regularly practicing yoga, cycling to various swim spots and can be found exploring Bristol’s (many) musical offerings.

isuri ratnayake -part I graduate

Isuri completed her BSc(Hons) Architecture degree at UWE, Bristol, graduating in 2022. She is ambitious and passionate about sustainability and community engagement.

In her final design project based in Bristol, she studied natural landscapes, microscopic forms of biophilia, and how to integrate them into design form and function that helps create a circular economy in the food industry.

Outside of architecture, Isuri loves travelling, painting, baking, and gym!
